what metropolis is about: controlling the enslaved masses with an artificially created (black magic = technology?) patsy to keep them in their place.
even after the “revolution” is averted the film ends with the promise that the underground dwellers will still be slaves and the privileged will continue to live in luxury ONLY this time they will all be much happier because the controlling forces offer more diversion.
metropolis is about the birth of mass media as a control-tool of the ruling class over the masses.
there is no happy-ending!
